Like some unholy cross between NOFX and Tom Petty, TIED FOR LAST
is a classic punk band with energy, attitude, hooks and humor.
Don't be fooled by imitations.
TFL was born in 2001, when guitarist Tom D’Angelo met up
with vocalist Steve Scollard. The boys got together and took to
jamming every week in Stephen’s living room on everything
from Rancid, Ramones and Green Day covers to songs by the Monkees,
Paul Simon, and Rick Springfield. They also started working on
what would become the first batch of TIED FOR LAST original songs.
Feeling
the need to play for an audience larger than Lopes (Stephen's cat),
the boys found a solid rhythm section, and started playing
live. They took to the stages of NYC like a Catholic schoolgirl
takes to communion wine. They've been performing regularly ever
since at famous New York venues such as The Continental, CBGB,
Knitting Factory, and a whole bunch of other stages.
In September
2004, the boys released their debut cd, entitled "Sorta
Live" to high acclaim (much of it from the band). The live-in-the-studio
album contains all of the earliest hits, and just underwent its
second pressing. You can sample a track from that album - a punked-up
cover of the protest classic, "Eve of Destruction" right here.
Tied For Last has received airplay and coverage
on the Ron and Fez Show, WNEW-FM (a New York City
major-market station), WICR (Iona College
Radio in New
Rochelle, NY), Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville station on
Sirius Satellite radio and, thanks to our friend Lisa from New Mexico,
we got on radio station in Albequerque as well. The
band also performed at the 2005 LebowskiFest NYC, and has garnered
very positive
local press coverage.
TFL is currently finishing
up work on the second full-length release. If all the stars align, "Kickass
Yes-Man Corporate Hacks" should
be available very soon, and this will likely be followed by shows
up and down the east coast with touring bassist Reah Valente and
drummer Jon Neal.
While they stay within the boundaries
of traditional punk (energetic, melodic, catchy, rootsy, and FUN),
they bring all sorts of different
influences to the table. Hence, THE SONGS DON’T ALL SOUND
ALIKE, YET THEY ALL KICK ASS.
Don’t believe us? COME TO A
SHOW!
