First band of a five-band night.

We thought we were gonna be smart by taking the earliest slot at The Continental, because often they have a large happy hour crowd that bleeds into the first band’s set. As per our typical luck, it was a cold and rainy evening, and it was also the sixth game of the Yankee-Red Sox playoffs. Needless to say, there was not a big happy hour crowd.

Lucky for us, we had a pretty decent showing of our own for a Tuesday evening, and damn near all of the folks that happened to be at the club anyway signed our e-mail list and seemed to dig us.

The show itself went well. According to our friends in the audience, the sound was very good, and that always goes a long way toward making a set go over with an audience. No new songs or surprises in the set – just classic Tied For Last tunes, but for some reason we went with our most poppy songs over some of our harder-edged material. It ended up being a fairly wise choice, because it definitely had a positive impact on the audience members who were unfamiliar w/ us.

We decided to have the sound guy record the set, and for once in a long while, the recording came out well. I’m damn happy about that, because it means that live MP3’s of Bloody Tuesday and Sailor will be on the site shortly. It also showed us that, despite a couple of small screw-ups, we are sounding better than we thought we did.

As for me, I had a lot of fun, but I didn’t have the energy that I normally have, and so I don’t think I moved as much as I would have liked. I pride myself on being a really energetic front-guy, and when I can’t deliver, I consider it a personal failing. In this case, though, I blame the Yankees for dragging games too late (and then losing ‘em too).

On the bright side, the band that followed us – Cat’s Paw were damn good. They’re a three-piece pop/rockabilly band with some catchy tunes. Oh yeah – and they’re girls too! Pretty cool, no?
