Second band of a three band night.
WOW!
I don't know that my writing this can accurately
convey the great time we had at this show, but here goes...
First off, it was our first whole gig with John
B., and he was clearly up to the task. No one who hadn't seen
us before had any inkling that he was "new" to the
band, and, with him on board, we're definitely firing on all
cylinders. I'd hate to be in a band that has to follow us onstage.
As always, the Orange Bear staff was quite welcoming,
and, perhaps because of the semi-crappy weather, everything
was pretty much on time.
The audience was large and energetic, and included
a whole lot of people there to see us for the first time (many
were John's friends there to witness his debut, and many who
were friends of Chris and Edy - big-time TFL supporters). I
was actually a bit nervous before we got up to set up our equipment.
The songs went over real well - especially for
a crowd packed with newcomers.
Out of all the band members, I was the only one
who made a glaring error all night. Don't know if it was because
I lost my breath, or if too much energy caused me to get ahead
of myself, but I totally lost my place in "A Song for the
Ladies." Lucky for me, Tom John and John caught on quick
and were able to steer the song to where I could join back in.
Barring that small gaffe, the show proceeded quite
smoothly until the real treat of the night:
We were planning to debut our version of Elvis'
"Burning Love." Before we got on, we saw that Pat
Smith and George Burke of the recently-disbanded Heaves were
at the show. Pat's a huge Elvis fan, and one hell of a singer
(and songwriter), so I asked him if he'd be up for joining us
for that song.
He kindly agreed, and when we got to the song
late in the set, it was everything we could have hoped for.
He nailed the song and blew the roof off the joint, and the
band had an awesome time!
Everytime we get on stage, it's special for us,
but this night, at least for me, was a little more special than
usual.
