Tied For Last

There were a couple of bands scheduled, but none showed. We were preceded by an
open mic set.

Since we were the only band, we could take our time and that led to one of the best sets we've done.

We played to a large crowd and got a very enthusiastic reception. The PA miked only the vocals, but we're pretty good at getting a balanced sound sans PA, and Tom was more than happy to test out a brand new amp purchased earlier that day, so the sound was good.

Tom broke his low E-string at the end of Party Dress. He switched to my guitar for the next two songs. I played on Beautiful in Black while Tom restrung. Tom was still stringing when the song ended, so, as per audience request, I did a well-received solo guitar and vox version of the Replacement's "Waitress in the Sky." While Tom tuned up and sang backup, John L went to the bar and John G. went to the bathroom.

The rhythm section returned to the stage and the band played out the rest of the set in very solid form. We felt very comfortable and felt that the audience was with us the whole way. Janine did her thing again and it was well-received as always.

On the whole, we had a blast.
