Tied For Last

Last band of a four band night.

We were billed in the papers as "Tied for Late."

The Continental is a pretty influential place. Some people who have played there are: The Ramones, Iggy Pop, Patti Smith, Debby Harry (of Blondie), H2O, D-Generation, Johnny Thunders, Bouncing Souls, etc… so we were psyched to get the gig. Happiness turned to dismay as we learned that we were scheduled for at least a half-hour later than we were booked, AND, on top of that, the club was running very late, even though one of the bands was a no-show.

We were booked for 11, listed at the club at 11:30, and didn't get to the stage until about 12:40 am. "Tied for Late" indeed.

We followed a really bad cover band, and a pretty bad "original" band. The sound was pretty good, and the audience (what was left of it) seemed pretty enthused, but the late hour took its toll, and we definitely didn't feel that it was one of our best shows.

Despite that, our friend Janine repeated her interpretive performance during "Take Janine Away," and, as at the Acme Underground gig, it was VERY well received. The whole sordid display was caught on camera by Rev. Caroline. The picture that graces the first page of the website was taken at this gig.

The other good news is that two people who had only seen us at our debut gig and then here both said that we sounded better than at the debut. If taken at their word, this means that we're getting better and more self-critical - both good things. Of course those people could be blowing smoke…
