Second band of a six-band night.

There were hospitalizations and a funeral that day for the TFL crowd, so we had a really small draw. It’s a shame, because we played one damn good set.

The band before us, The Walk-Ons, were pretty good, and it’s the second time we followed them, but they didn’t have a large crowd, either. During their set, a good amount of people who had stopped in for after-work drinks started to split. As soon as they cleared the stage, we ran up and tried to catch the rest of the crowd before they left. Usually, if we catch people before they’re actually out the door, we can keep ‘em in their seats longer than they had originally planned.

We seemed to do just that. There were even people who were walking toward the door as we started who sat down and stayed the whole set once they heard us. There’s no greater compliment than that.

We were plagued by sound problems with the bass amp before set up, so we ended up taking a shorter set. It was a fun set, though, and we just sort of plowed through it. I was active for the first part – jumping around and the like, but by about halfway through, I got a little tired. I realized it was because I was playing without the aid of Water Joe – my caffeinated water.

Much like we did with Ziggy Stardust for Edy at the 7/23/04 Orange Bear gig, we learned the Velvet Underground’s “Sweet Jane” in honor of our close friend Jane’s birthday. We had worked out this really cool arrangement on the ending where the guitars and vocals go full-on, but the drums are limited to just kick and toms, but Geller totally forgot it, so I was a bit disappointed. Sunded damn good anyway though and got a great response from the audience.

The rest of the set did sound damn tight, and we even had it recorded. There’s some kind of crazy static on the cd recording, but under that static is a show that I’m pretty proud of.

Lastly, it was also my birthday week as well, and in the grand tradition of most of my TFL birthday shows, very few people showed up. A BIG thanks to those that did.
