First band of a five-band night.
When you show up at a club and it's not scheduled
to open until after you're scheduled to be on, it's a bad omen.
The good news is we had a few of our regular fans/friends
there, and the other spectators seemed to dig us a lot (they
even did "the wave" during our set).
Arlene seemed like a cool place, and the staff
was pretty friendly, which is always a good thing. Unfortunately,
they used to charge no cover, and now it's a $7 cover. That's
a little steep, but it's not my call to make.
Before I go any further, I will say that this
was the last gig with John Lally as our bass player. This gig
was not the reson he is no longer with TIED FOR LAST, but it
didn't help matters.
Tom, John Geller and I were all pretty psyched
because we hadn't played out in awhile, and because we were
debuting two brand new songs, and performing another for only
the second time. Lally, on the other hand, didn't seem too excited
to be there, and it sometimes showed in his playing. I'm not
into trashing people - especially in public - so I'll just leave
it at that.
Barring some bass problems, the show went very
well. We played the new songs ("She Was Just a Girl,"
"Sailor" and "Bloody Tuesday") with very
few errors (though I did mix up a verse in Sailor), and they
were all quite well received. The old stand by tunes went over
well, also.
I had wanted to try something different and end
the set with "She Was Just a Girl," but Tom wanted
to keep "Take Janine Away" as the closer for now.
I'll convince him yet.
The band - especially Tom - was very active and
talkative/entertaining on mic, and I had a blast!
