Open mic night

First ever live performance as a band

We planned to do three songs as a “warm-up” for the Kenny’s Castaways gig later in the month.

No one told us that in order to sign up for the open mic, we had to sit through a 75-minute set by a totally cheeseball 70's rock cover band (including, apparently, the drummer of Blue Oyster Cult).

Hence, we were nervously waiting for about two hours to go on, and other than me, the band was drinking during that whole time.

We finally had the chance to get on (and we had to play on other people's equipment), but we were getting "coached" by Lisa Miller (ead singer of the aforementioned cover band, and coordinator of the open mic) as if we were high school freshmen. It was actually pretty funny.

The alcohol and nerves resulted in semi-sloppy playing, but all in all, it was good enough for an open mic, and our first time in front of anyone. The decidedly “classic rawk” audience enjoyed the set. Many comments of disbelief at the fact that it’s the first time we played to an audience. That's always a good sign...
