First band of a five band night.

We got this gig through Anastasia from America’s Sweetheart who John B knows through Joe from Dick van Dick. Anastasia apparently set up a whole night of her friends’ bands to play with her own. It was a pretty good deal.

Apparently, Siberia used to be about 10 blocks uptown, and was located INSIDE a subway station. The new place is nice, and it looks pretty cool. I like that bands play in the basement, and the jukebox has some cool shit in it…but I really would have liked to have played in the old one.

When I walked in the place, I was worried because they had a sign up that said “No Hitting on Women and No Foul Language.” I wasn’t too concerned with the hitting on women part, but we definitely were gonna have a problem with restraining our language. Luckily, the soundguy/bartender (I think his name was Mike - and I feel bad for forgetting it because he was pretty cool) said we could say whatever we want when we’re actually onstage.

Being the first band on, and not having the amps miked, we were able to actually do a full soundcheck. We did our version of Tom Petty’s American Girl, and the ten or so people who got there early seemed to like it. We didn’t play the song in the regular set, though, because Joe from DVD told us that it’s kind of a signature song for America’s Sweetheart. We didn’t want to step on their toes, so we chose Burning Love to replace it.

The set went really well, and we had a great time. There were a lot of new faces in the crowd, and they were actively into the show, which was cool. This show marked the public debut of “Achiever,” and it went over quite well, so we were all pretty psyched about that. Also, Tom took over vocal duties, and I handled guitar for “Wasted” again and that’s becoming a set highlight (at least for me and Tom).

This was possibly one of the best sets we’ve ever played, and later, when I looked through the awesome pictures the Rev. Caroline took, I realize that we looked like we knew it all along (which is a good thing).

Thanks to Dick Van Dick and America’s Sweetheart for getting us on the bill.
